Peanut Butter Stew

Oh! My people oh!
Dis white boy over here?
He fine like soup.

The paradox of groundnut stew:
Sweet nuttiness and sour fish sauce,
smoked turkey neck ready to be picked clean.
Thickness that defies spoons or cassava;
a roiling boil of underfed chicken legs.

And the deep tan stains collect against the white stove,
recalling us against each other.
