Again and Again

My older sister’s new doll, Alice,
has blue eyes that open and shut.

My toddler fingers poke those eyes
back into Alice’s plaster skull.

Our father repairs them until they
can no longer be fixed. I remember

nothing of Alice’s fascinating eyes,
but my sister reminds me, again.
