History
(with a nod to Kay Ryan)

In the thick of it,
who knows
when or if
they’re
making it.
Take scientists
who shovel
facts.
Yesterday,
Lucy roamed
her continent
alone.
Today, Little Foot’s
contemporized
the story line
and leads the pack.
History sifts
through
time and space.
So much for
certainty
when
bone-bound Truth
hides out
in sediment
for centuries.
